Explore Macomb's Haunted Side

One of the easiest ways to discover Macomb's supernatural side is the Haunted Macomb self-guided tour. The interactive experience takes visitors throughout the community, sharing stories of ghosts, unexplained happenings and local legends along the way. Visitors can explore at their own pace, making it an easy addition to an October itinerary.

The Haunted Macomb Trail was inspired by the work of the late Garret Moffett, author of Haunted Macomb. Moffett's book helped preserve and bring attention to the stories, legends and unexplained happenings that have become part of Macomb's history. His work continues to inspire visitors and locals interested in exploring the city's haunted past.

For those who prefer their scares up close, the Bushnell Haunted House will be open October 16–17, 23–24 and 30–31, offering plenty of thrills as Halloween approaches.

The region's paranormal stories extend beyond traditional haunted attractions. Paranormal author Michael Norman, known for his Haunted book series, has documented stories of strange happenings throughout the region. Local folklore surrounding Argyle Lake State Park includes its own tales of mysterious creatures and reported werewolf or “Dogman” encounters, adding another layer to the area's reputation for the unusual.

Visitors can also explore the area's history during the Atkinson/McCord Cemetery Tour at Argyle Lake State Park on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Led by park staff, the historical walking tour explores the cemetery located on the park's property and offers a glimpse into the people and stories connected to the area's past. Participants should be prepared to walk approximately a half-mile over moderate terrain.

Celebrate the Beauty of Fall

For those who want to experience the season without the scares, Moon Over Macomb Fall Festival on Saturday, October 17, brings autumn to life in the heart of downtown. Macomb's historic Courthouse Square comes alive with colorful decorations, family fun, local art and small-town charm, offering a festive way to celebrate the beauty of fall.

Yesternight Pumpkin Farm is open September 19 through November 1, giving families plenty of opportunities to enjoy a classic fall outing throughout the season. Visitors can embrace the traditions of autumn, explore the farm and take in the sights and atmosphere of pumpkin season.

Camp’s Orchard is another must-stop for anyone looking to savor the flavors of fall. The orchard offers house-made apple cider donuts and frozen cider slushies, making it a delicious stop for visitors exploring Macomb and the surrounding area.
